Notes

  • Lynessa’s Battlecry is limited to 30 cards and casts the buffs in a random order.
  • Journey to Un'GoroAdaptation spells cast on Lynessa chooses a random adaptation instead of the original adaptation.[1]
  • The spells cast on her do not count towards the Paladin Quest, Journey to Un'GoroThe Last Kaleidosaur.[2]
  • Spells that were copied with The League of ExplorersDjinni of Zephyrs will not be cast on Lynessa.
  • Spells that place a Deathrattle enchantment on Lynessa such as Journey to Un'GoroSpikeridged Steed will not trigger if she is played while Journey to Un'GoroSpiritsinger Umbra is in play.[1]
  • Lynessa can kill herself with LegacySacrificial Pact, despite being an illegal target for the spell. This may be intended. [3]

Strategy

Though initially weak, Lynessa can become an incredibly efficient minion with a few spells boosting her effects. Simply having played LegacyBlessing of Kings and Journey to Un'GoroSpikeridged Steed is enough to create a 7/11 Taunt that summons a 2/6 Taunt on death. Adding in more spells, such as Whispers of the Old GodsDivine Strength, LegacyBlessing of Wisdom, and Kobolds & CatacombsPotion of Heroism for card draw can turn Lynessa into a powerhouse of stats and bonus effects. Lynessa will re-cast every Echoed copy of Sound the Bells, meaning that making full use of each cast is essential.

Maximizing Lynessa's stats can be tricky if you are running Knights of the Frozen ThroneDark Conviction or Journey to Un'GoroDinosize because they'll overwrite buffs you've cast beforehand. If you are using LegacyBlessed Champion, it's best used after she is on the field as the random cast order can prevent it from gaining its full effect.

Beware of Silence and Transformation effects, as these will completely negate all of Lynessa's gathered spells. Alternatively, play Lynessa with a conservative number of buffs, using her to bait out a Silence to protect LegacyTirion Fordring or other high value minions.

Ultimately Lynessa is a very efficient pile of stats, but still just a pile of stats and easily dealt with if not properly protected. As such, it may be preferable to save one or two Adaptations for after she's summoned to increase the chances of gaining Elusive and drastically increasing her effectiveness.

Because of her natural synergy with buff cards, she works well with Journey to Un'GoroThe Last Kaleidosaur, letting you guarantee future value on your spells.

For Rogues who received Lynessa randomly, beware: if you've used LegacyShadowstep in this match she'll return herself back to your hand. For this reason Shadowstep cannot be used to return Lynessa to the hand for reuse (usefully).

Copying Lynessa with cards such as The WitchwoodBaleful Banker or Kobolds & CatacombsZola the Gorgon allows you to re-cast Lynessa with a potentially greater number of buffs, thus alleviating the risk of Lynessa being targeted by removal.

Lore

Lynessa is unique to Hearthstone. She is a former LegacyBlood Knight who left the order, disgusted, after they stopped draining power from the naaru, as she felt that the elves had grown weak and that drawing from the Sunwell couldn't give her the power she truly sought. Now starving for magic, she has ventured to the catacombs, a repository of ancient energy. As she explores, she drains the magic from the air, feasting for the first time since she left Silvermoon City.[4]

She shares her last name with Ambassador Sunsorrow, the blood elven ambassador to the Forsaken of the Undercity, but it's unknown if the two are related.

Trivia

  • Lynessa Sunsorrow's entrance music is taken from Ghostlands.
