Battlecry: Silence your other minions.
This soul just wails on you. Dang, soul, let up already.
How to get[edit | edit source]
|Golden Wailing Soul||800||100|
Strategy[edit | edit source]
While the Wailing Soul has slightly below average stats, its Battlecry can give it unique utility in a suitable deck. The self-Silence will remove detrimental Deathrattles from otherwise high-value minions (such as Zombie Chow, Deathlord and The Beast), allow cards that can't attack to attack (like Ancient Watcher or Ragnaros the Firelord), and stop generally inconvenient effects from cards such as Venture Co. Mercenary, Nerub'ar Weblord and Nozdormu. It can be useful with Lorewalker Cho or Wild Pyromancer if you want to use spells without hurting your other minions, and with Mana Wraith or Doomsayer if you made a bad play. You can also remove debuffs such as Humility, an opponent's Blessing of Wisdom, and even Freeze on your own minions, particularly useful against mages.
One combo for paladins is to cast Equality followed by summoning Wailing Soul, with the combined result of reducing all enemy minions' Health to 1, removing all enchantments and card text on friendly minions, and healing all friendly minions back to their original maximum Health. This works due to Equality's Health reduction effect being caused by an enchantment, which is removed by Wailing Soul's Silence, increasing the minion's current Health by the same amount. This combo can also be followed up by Consecration, destroying all enemy minions without Divine Shield. With the additional benefit of generating a 3/5 minion for the paladin, this 10 mana, 3 card combo is an incredibly potent combination that can turn the board immensely to the paladin's favor.
Warlocks can use Power Overwhelming on a minion, attack with that minion, and then use Wailing Soul to Silence the minion, thus preventing it from dying.
