Strategy[edit | edit source]
A tiny version of Cabalist's Tome that simply replaces itself with another Mage spell. The range of effects for Mage spells is fairly large, making this card unpredictable for both players. Given the unreliability of this spell, it's often better to just put the spells you want into your deck. Tome of Intellect is however a great way for new players to experience Mage spells they may not own.
Tome of Intellect can be useful for completing Open the Waygate. Shifting Scroll is comparable to this card, since it lacks the 1 mana upfront cost but cannot be "locked into" something else. Primordial Glyph, Babbling Book, and Shimmering Tempest are generally stronger alternatives to this card.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Tome of Intellect, along with Icicle, Call of the Void, and Pilfer were added to the Classic set in patch 12.4.0.27405 to make up for the fact that the mage, warlock, and rogue classes previously had fewer cards available to them in Standard format as a result of Ice Block, Ice Lance, Power Overwhelming, and Conceal being moved to the Wild format in the Hall of Fame set.[1]
- When designing the four aforementioned cards, Blizzard were thinking about new players' first experiences playing Hearthstone. The new Classic cards were designed to be relatively straightforward while still creating some exciting moments, and give players a chance to see and play with cards that they don't own. At the same time, it's important that the new Classic cards aren't so powerful that they limit future design or cause problems since they're intended to permanently remain in Standard.[1]
- The artwork for this card comes from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game "War of the Ancients" series, for the card Arcane Potency.
