Notes

To edit these notes, go to Template:Steward of Darkshire notes.

  • This minion's triggered effect activates whenever the controlling player summons a minion with 1 Health. It does not require the minion to be played from the hand.
  • The effect only activates if the minion summoned has a maximum Health value of 1. Minions which are damaged to 1 Health (such as those summoned by LegacyRedemption), will not trigger it.[1][2] In addition, minions which are buffed in hand (such as by Mean Streets of GadgetzanGrimestreet Outfitter), will not trigger the effect either.
  • The effect activates before any Battlecry from the summoned minions. For example, playing LegacyTwilight Drake with other cards in hand will cause the initially 1-Health Drake to activate the Steward's effect, gaining Divine Shield, before its Battlecry then increases its Health.[3]
  • Steward of Darkshire is a Summon Resolution Step trigger, meaning she triggers after each outermost Phase resolves, after auras update. As a result, depending on whether you play or merely summon a minion, she will check her condition and trigger with the following timing:
    • Played: after auras, after On Play Phase triggers, before After Summon Triggers
    • Merely summoned: after auras, after After Summon Triggers
  • As a result, Steward of Darkshire triggers after LegacySword of Justice for merely summoned minions, but before LegacySword of Justice for played minions. She always triggers after Health auras update (such as LegacySouthsea Captain) and after Goblins vs GnomesHobgoblin triggers. It is unknown which of these interactions are bugged and which are intended. Keep them in mind when constructing Steward of Darkshire decks that contain other buffs.[4]

The gates of Darkshire in World of Warcraft

After years of defending their town against the terrors of Duskwood, the grim defenders of Darkshire are no strangers to horror or madness. The Steward of Darkshire is a true good-willed defender of her home, free of corruption by the Old Gods, as can be seen by the torch and lack of tentacles, and the Holy Light shining in her eyes.

Darkshire is a once-quaint little woodland village located in Duskwood, but it has fallen on literally dark times. The surrounding forests have been filled with an evil malaise that cloaks the land in constant darkness. The walking dead choke the graveyards, and foul creatures known as worgen have overrun many of the outlying farmsteads. Even worse, Stormwind has all but abandoned the village and the surrounding area, as most of the Stormwind army is currently off fighting on the Horde/Alliance front. This has left the stubborn people of Duskwood little choice but to defend themselves.
The small town now numbers a scant 3,500 people, a great deal of them refugees from Raven Hill. Lord Ello Ebonlocke is the elected mayor of this town. His daughter, Commander Althea Ebonlocke, runs the Night Watch, a local militia that works to keep the roads free and the creeping darkness back for as long as possible. They strike against the undead and worgen that plague the land. The people of Duskwood are a jumpy and suspicious lot, but they are desperate for any aid they can get against the evil that now surrounds their homes.

The art for this card appears to depict Watcher Sarah Ladimore, but the Hearthstone character is likely unrelated.
