Notes[edit | edit source]
- This minion's Battlecry replaces the controlling player's Hero Power with a copy of the opponent's current Hero Power, whatever it is.
- Example: You can use Sideshow Spelleater to permanently copy replacement Hero Powers such as INFERNO! and Mind Shatter.[1][2]
- Example: If you use Sideshow Spelleater to copy a basic Hero Power, you can upgrade it as usual using Justicar Trueheart.[3]
- Example: If the opponent controls Hero Power-modifying ongoing effects such as Coldarra Drake or Maiden of the Lake, their effects will not be copied by Sideshow Spelleater, since they do not belong to the Hero Power itself, but to other entities.[4]
- Sideshow Spelleater does not copy Hero Powers from adventure bosses, in order to prevent this card from trivialising many challenging encounters.[5]
Known bugs[edit | edit source]
- Using Shadowform to change your Hero Power and then using Sideshow Spelleater to copy your opponent's Hero Power will replace your Hero Power correctly, but will leave the Shadowform visual effect on your hero's portrait. Using Shadowform again to replace the Hero Power granted by Sideshow Spelleater will correctly give the hero Mind Spike once again, and not Mind Shatter.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
Sideshow Spelleater can work well for rogue or druid, since their Hero Powers are not that useful in the later stages of the game.
You can copy upgraded Hero Powers from Quest such as Obelisk's Eye , Tome of Origination, and etc or even upgraded Hero Power from Justicar Trueheart or Baku the Mooneater, or for fun, The Amazing Reno's What Does This Do? to have both player's utilizing RNG instead. Copying Hero Power replacements such as INFERNO! or DIE, INSECT! can be devastating for your enemies.
Just like Grim Patron, Sideshow Spelleater is not expected to work well with all classes, but mage's Coldarra Drake synergises very well with Sideshow Spelleater and Maiden of the Lake can double the value of this combo.
You can use Sideshow Spelleater to permanently change your opponent's hero power by first playing Grizzled Wizard, then copying the swapped hero power.
