Strategy[edit | edit source]
This card plays largely like Loot Hoarder, with only a few differences:
- The card it provides is always a spell.
- It can generate cards that you did not include in your deck.
- It is an elemental.
Without the context of your deck, Shimmering Tempest's main difference from Loot Hoarder is its increased randomness. This may be both good and bad: It may provide you with a third copy of your favorite spell, with situational cards that save you from certain defeat, or with situational cards that are little to no use.
The real reason to play this card are its synergistic potential with multiple deck-archetypes. Decks with heavy spell-synergy will usually prefer Tempest over Hoarder. Decks that use Open the Waygate can always make use of this and elemental-decks will likely also benefit from its inclusion.
As of Journey to Un'Goro, there are a possible 31 Mage spells in Standard this card can generate.
