Notes

To edit these notes, go to Template:Redemption notes.

  • Despite the card text, Redemption does not return the target minion to life - it simply summons a new copy of that minion. Any damage or enchantments belonging to the minion which died will not be copied.
  • If Knights of the Frozen ThroneDesperate Stand was cast on the minion which died, Desperate Stand triggers first, then Redemption, its result will be the same two resummoned minions with 1 HP.
  • As a summon effect, Redemption will trigger effects like that of LegacyKnife Juggler.
  • Since the original minion died normally, it can be resurrected by NaxxramasKel'Thuzad, resulting in a second copy of the original minion.
  • Redemption has a low priority, meaning that regardless of play order, it will always trigger last on a given Death Event. As two examples, this means that a resurrected Goblins vs GnomesExplosive Sheep will never then hit itself with its own AoE and die again, and that Mean Streets of GadgetzanWeasel Tunneler can never be resurrected by Redemption (as it will already have changed sides by then).[1][2]
  • Redemption only sets a minion's current Health to 1, not its maximum Health. Therefore a Redeemed minion can be healed, and also counts as damaged for the purposes of abilities like Enrage.
  • If a friendly NaxxramasMad Scientist is killed at the same time as another friendly minion which was summoned after the Scientist, and the Mad Scientist's Deathrattle puts Redemption into play, Redemption will immediately trigger from the death of that other minion, but not from the death of the Mad Scientist.[3]
  • Note that Secrets can only trigger on the opponent's turn. If one of the controlling player's minions die on their own turn, the minion will not be resurrected. This generally makes Charge of no benefit for resurrected minions. While preventing the paladin from self-triggering the ability to their benefit, this design can allow for a different type of strategic advantage. For example, a player can send a low-value minion on a fatal attack without having Redemption wasted on resurrecting them.
  • Redemption will not trigger if there is no room for the minion - either at the start of resolving the Death Event or when Redemption itself resolves.[4]

Lore

Redemption is the paladin resurrection ability from World of Warcraft. It is a long cast time spell that brings a dead player back to life, but can only be cast outside of combat.

Trivia

  • The artwork for this card comes from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game "Twilight of the Dragons" series, for the card Word of Glory.
  • Through combination with cards like LegacyHarvest Golem on a full board, Redemption used to allow the player to have 8 minions at once, but not more than 8.[5] This has since been fixed.

    1. Tested by User:Taohinton, 2015-02-07. Tested thoroughly in several single-death scenarios. For example: Played Redemption, NaxxramasUnstable Ghoul, LegacyCult Master. Opponent then destroyed Unstable Ghoul. Deathrattle triggered first, then Cult Master, then Redemption. Another example: Played Redemption, LegacyCult Master, NaxxramasSludge Belcher. Opponent then destroyed Sludge Belcher. Cult Master triggered first, then Sludge Belcher Deathrattle, then Redemption. Another example: Played Redemption, LegacyLoot Hoarder, LegacyAbomination. Opponent then destroyed Abomination. Abomination's Deathrattle triggered, killing Loot Hoarded; however it was remained on the board at -1 Health while Redemption was then activated.
    2. Tested by User:Taohinton and User:Adys, 2015-02-07. Regardless of order of play, with several Deathrattle minions on the board, the Redemption will trigger from the death of the first minion (the oldest), following its Deathrattle, but before the Deathrattles of the other minions.
    3. Tested by User:Taohinton 2015-02-07. Tried both NaxxramasDuplicate and Redemption; in both cases NaxxramasMad Scientist will cause the next simultaneous death to trigger the secret, but will not trigger it himself. Simultaneous deaths of earlier minions are resolved before the Scientist, and thus were found not to activate the secret.
