Deathrattle: Summon a random 2-Cost minion.
Once upon a time, only goblins piloted shredders. These days, everyone from Doomsayer to Lorewalker Cho seems to ride one.
How to get[edit | edit source]
|Golden Piloted Shredder||400||50|
Notes[edit | edit source]
- This card's Deathrattle is able to summon any collectible 2-cost minion in the game, including those specific to classes other than the controlling hero. Uncollectible minions such as Panther will not be summoned.
- Minions summoned by this card's Deathrattle will enter play prior to the resolution of the Shredder's death. It will also be summoned before the resolution of any spell used to destroy it. This means that summoned minions with related triggered effects will immediately activate in response.
- As of Descent of Dragons, there are 251 2-cost collectible minions in the game, giving this card a 0.39% chance of summoning any given minion.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
A substantial minion in its own right, the Shredder's value is often determined by which minion is summoned by its Deathrattle. This introduces a fairly large measure of RNG into the card's value, and rewards players and decks which are able to improvise around the introduction of unexpected minions.
One of the most significant minions this card can summon is the Doomsayer. If the Shredder belonged to the player whose turn it currently is, the Doomsayer will attempt to wipe the board at the start of the next round, giving the opponent a turn to act; while if the Shredder belonged to the opponent, the Doomsayer will attempt to wipe the board at the start of the very next turn. In either case this threatens to destroy all minions on the board, which can prove extremely helpful or extremely disadvantageous for either player, depending on board conditions and deck type. The Piloted Shredder has a 0.42% chance of summoning a Doomsayer.
Regardless of whether the Shredder belongs to you or your opponent, it is often wise to trigger the Deathrattle of the Shredder before making other plays, allowing you to take into account the presence of the new minion. It is particularly worthwhile when planning to summon other minions that turn, in case a Doomsayer is summoned; the player can then hold the minions until after the Doomsayer has cleared the board, avoiding immediately losing them to its effect. However, while generally useful for informing your decisions, at times this approach may backfire, such as by producing an enemy taunt minion, Armorsmith, or Scavenging Hyena, which can then feed off subsequent combat.

Battlecry: Look at 3 cards. Guess which one is in your opponent's hand to get a copy of it. "Note to self: possess someone who's local and knows directions next time."
Battlecry: Unlock your Overloaded Mana Crystals. Just try to avoid eye contact.
You can use your Hero Power twice a turn. He'll never admit it, but he pushes you hard because he really cares about you.
Battlecry: Remove the top card from your opponent's deck. She prefers the term "Glampire."
Battlecry: Swap Hero Powers with your opponent until your next turn. When he was young, he was an Outrageous Magus.
Deathrattle: Shuffle this into your deck. It keeps any enchantments. She protec.
But most importantly,
she come bac.
Battlecry: For each spell you've cast this turn, add a random Mage spell to your hand. It'll put a good spin on your spells.
Whenever this minion is healed, summon a 2/2 Crystal. Gadgetzan, where even the pet rocks have pet rocks.
At the end of your turn, give another random friendly minion +1 Attack. The dramatically detailed terrifically trimmed replica of the real thing!
All minions take double damage from spells. Double-damage. You know the drill.
Battlecry: If you have 10 Mana Crystals, your spells have Lifesteal this turn. Has a side-business selling her lipstick shade, "Omega Red."
Poisonous He’s not really that patient. It just takes a while for someone to walk by that he can actually reach.
Deathrattle: Return any spells you cast on this minion to your hand. Sure, he'll return your stuff. OVER HIS DEAD BODY!
Battlecry: Transform a friendly minion into a random minion with the same Cost. For when you didn’t combobulate quite right the first time around.
After you cast a spell on a minion, add a Priest spell to your hand. The Sethekk weren't able to survive this long by being wasteful with their power. Or their wacky hats.
Battlecry: Transform into a 2/2 copy of a friendly Deathrattle minion. Terrible at shadow puppets: "This is... a tentacle! And this is... two tentacles!"
Your Hero Power can target minions. Goblins seldom have the patience for sniping. Most prefer lobbing explosives.
Battlecry: Give a friendly minion +1/+2.
This has different effects based on which game board you're on. Oh, the places you'll go! There is so much to fight! There are boards to be explored. There are dreams to take flight.
Whenever you draw a card, transform it into a random Legendary minion. All it takes is some imagination and a cardboard box.
Whenever you play a Combo card, add a random Combo card to your hand. C-c-combo!
Battlecry: Transform all Neutral cards in your deck into random cards from your class. She keeps your deck classy.
Whenever you draw a minion, add a copy of it to your hand. His worgen children call him Archmage AROO-OO-OO-OO-gal.
Spell Damage +1
Deathrattle: Shuffle 'Solarian Prime' into your deck. Loyal to Kael'thas Sunstrider, this blood elf mage sought arcane power in the Void. Did she find it... or did IT find her?
Spell Damage +1. Deathrattle: Draw a card. He's in charge of the Annual Scarlet Monastery Blood Drive!
Whenever you discard this, give it +2/+2 and return it to your hand. A bit of a snob: still refuses to drive anything with automatic transmission.
Divine Shield, Lifesteal
Your healing is doubled. He wants to tank, but Boom always makes him play support.
Battlecry: Give all weapons in your hand and deck +1 Attack. Grapplehammer is the horrible mind behind the Automatic Piranha Launcher (banned in 7 districts)!
Your Demons cost (1) less.
Deathrattle: Shuffle 'Kanrethad Prime' into your deck. After Illidan's downfall, Kanrethad formed the Council of the Black Harvest to study Illidan's fel magic. Some say he was... green with envy.
After you cast a Choose One spell, add copies of both choices to your hand. Keeps your choices handy.
Your cards that summon minions summon twice as many. "What do you call two minions summoned at once? Twinions, haha! Wait... where are you going?"
Whenever a player casts a spell, put a copy into the other player's hand. Lorewalker Cho archives and shares tales from the land of Pandaria, but his favorite story is the one where Joey and Phoebe go on a road trip.
Battlecry: Enemy spells cost (0) next turn. "I'm gonna light you up, sweetcheeks!"
Deathrattle: Shuffle 'Murgurgle Prime' into your deck. Murlocs are not native to Outland. When the Sungills arrived, one among them rose to the challenge of this dark world. They call him... Murgurgle. Murgur Murgurgle.
At the start of your turn, you have a 50% chance to draw an extra card. Nat Pagle, Azeroth's premier fisherman! He invented the Auto-Angler 3000, the Extendo-Pole 3000, and the Lure-o-matic 2099 (still in testing).

Statistics[edit | edit source]
As of The Grand Tournament, the average Shredder-summoned minion has 1.99 attack, 2.48 health, a 6.0% chance to be a Taunt, a 2.4% chance to be Stealth (one of which also has Poison), a 2.4% chance to have Spell Damage +1, a 11.9% chance to be a Mech, a 9.5% chance to be a Beast, a 9.5% chance to have a Deathrattle, and a 2.4% chance to have Inspire.
While the common advice is to pop Shredders as early as possible in case of Doomsayer making it a bad idea to play more minions, don't forget that Mana Wraith or Nerub'ar Weblord or Lorewalker Cho, with their abilities, can make it inconvenient to play minions or spells once on the field, and Dire Wolf Alpha and the 4 possible taunts including Annoy-o-Tron can change what trades are good. Other strategically interesting possibilities are Explosive Sheep, Scavenging Hyena, Knife Juggler, Wild Pyromancer, Patient Assassin and Faerie Dragon.
For its attack, it can have 0 (8.3% chance, including Doomsayer and Lorewalker Cho), 1 (20.2% chance, including Explosive Sheep and Patient Assassin), 2 (41.7% chance, including Bluegill Warrior and Argent Watchman), 3 (23.8% chance) or 4 (6.0% chance, including Ancient Watcher and One-eyed Cheat).
For its health, it can have 1 (13.1% chance, including Explosive Sheep), 2 (46.4% chance, including three taunts and Nerubian Egg), 3 (26.2% chance, including Unstable Ghoul), 4 (10.7% chance, including Lorewalker Cho and Nat Pagle), 5 (2.4% chance - Ancient Watcher and Lightwell) or 7 ( 1.2% chance - Doomsayer).
Lore[edit | edit source]
- The shredder is an impressive goblin mechanical creature which is usually piloted by a goblin. Shredders are used for lumbering, but they can serve in war because of the solid metal construction of the machine and the great saws they wield. The first machine designed to mimic the humanoid form, goblin shredders use the steamsaws attached to their arms to cut down lumber at an incredible rate that is unmatched by peasant work crews.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- This card's Deathrattle Summon effect is intended to depict the shredder's pilot hitting the "big shiny red eject button" and parachuting onto the field to continue the fight.
