Strategy[edit | edit source]

Kobold Illusionist has low stats for its cost, but its interest resides in its Deathrattle. This card chooses a random minion in your hand and summons a 1/1 copy of it on the board when its Deathrattle resolves. This means that if you have multiple minions in hand, you cannot know what minion will be picked, but if you have only one minion in your hand, you can ensure it will be summoned by the effect.

The copy is useful for minions with useful Deathrattles or other passive effects. A notable example is Malygos. It can be prepared with Necrium Blade to put Malygos on the board for 4 mana and can be followed up with a barrage of cheap damaging spells for unexpected burst damage. The Lich King is also a solid minion for control-style decks.

In Wild, there are even more options for minions to pull, like Ragnaros the Firelord and Sneed's Old Shredder.
