Notes

  • This card's effect only replaces one of the ten basic Hero Powers.[1] If the player has an alternative Hero Power or already has an upgraded Hero Power, this card will have no effect.[2]
Example: Suppose a player with Blackrock MountainDIE, INSECT! uses that Hero Power and then plays Justicar Trueheart. Since DIE, INSECT! is not a basic Hero Power, Justicar Trueheart will have no effect: DIE, INSECT! will not be replaced nor refreshed for that turn.
  • This effect will replace a basic Hero Power with its upgraded version even if it was not the Hero Power the player started the game with.
Example: A hunter with the LegacyArmor Up! Hero Power obtained through The League of ExplorersSir Finley Mrrgglton plays Justicar Trueheart. The Hero Power will be upgraded to LegacyTank Up!, not LegacyBallista Shot.
  • As usual, replacing your Hero Power will refresh it, allowing the new Hero Power to be used on that same turn if mana allows.
Example: A player with enough mana can use a basic Hero Power, play Justicar Trueheart and then use the upgraded Hero Power, all in one turn.[3]
  • As usual, the replacement effect is permanent and cannot be cancelled by removing or silencing Justicar Trueheart.[4]
  • If Justicar Trueheart is golden, the new Hero Power will also be golden.[5] If Justicar Trueheart is non-golden, the new Hero Power will be non-golden if the old one was non-golden (even if the hero itself is golden) [6], and will be golden if the old one was golden.[verification requested]

Poisoned Daggers
Totemic Slam
  • As with Totemic Call, Totems other than the four basic ones cannot be summoned by Totemic Slam. However, you can choose which basic Totem to summon, bypassing the randomness of Totemic Call.
  • Unlike Totemic Call, Totemic Slam can be used to summon a basic Totem you already have on the board.[8]
  • The selection interface for choosing which basic Totem to summon resembles that of LegacyTracking, Choose One and Discover effects.
  • LegacyTotemic Slam activate Combo effects.[9]

Strategy

This is a strong card for control decks. By improving the base Hero Power for the rest of the match you can take advantage of the Hero Power it provides each turn after you play it. For Inspire decks this may improve further if they have The Grand TournamentGarrison Commander. The downside is you take a tempo loss by playing this card due to its 3 Health. More often than not, your enemy will have an easy time destroying it.

Specific examples include:

  • Justicar Trueheart is very powerful in Control Warrior decks, where LegacyTank Up! can render the warrior almost invincible, as well as enabling extremely powerful Shield Slams.
  • LegacyThe Silver Hand can be effective in paladin decks revolving around LegacySilver Hand Recruit synergy, specifically Goblins vs GnomesQuartermaster and The Grand TournamentWarhorse Trainer. The threat of these combos will force your opponent to waste attacks and removal on multiple Recruits per turn, exerting great pressure on the board. Also, similar to LegacyArgent Squire, it exerts a tiny amount of pressure that is extremely difficult to deal with using a single card, exceptions include area of effect removal and minions with Taunt that have more than 1 Health.
  • Priests can unlock LegacyHeal via Justicar Trueheart. This can greatly prolong the lives of both the priest's minions and the priest himself. LegacyAuchenai Soulpriest also becomes immensely strong to combo with Heal, providing 4 damage for just 2 mana a turn.
  • Shamans can benefit from the flexibility LegacyTotemic Slam provides them, whether by drawing out the game further by summoning one LegacyStoneclaw Totem after another or by summoning a ClassicWrath of Air Totem when you're one damage short of killing a minion with a spell. However, it's much better to add Justicar Trueheart in a deck that utilizes Totem synergy heavily than one without.
  • Justicar Trueheart is far less effective on other classes since your Hero Power isn't going to get that much value or have significant impact by the time you play her, even on Inspire decks.

Patch changes

  • Unknown patch between Patch 2.7.0.9166 and Patch 8.0.4.18792: Golden heroes used to always gain golden Hero Powers from Justicar Trueheart, even if Justicar Trueheart was not golden.[10] This was an exception to the usual rules for golden Hero Powers, and it may have been because the card conceptually "upgrades" the Hero Power. Now, if the hero is golden by its Hero Power is not, non-golden Justicar Trueheart gives a non-golden upgraded Hero Power.
