History
First Day of School was initially a 0-cost spell that added two 1-cost minions to the hand. It saw near-ubiquitous play in Paladin decks, being a splashable card that made up for Paladin's otherwise lackluster early game while essentially functioning like a 
Fire Fly with highroll potential. While always strong during the Year of the Phoenix, the introduction of the Core set in 2021 made the card much more problematic. With almost every low roll removed from Standard, this card became an efficient tempo and value card in the dominant Secret Paladin deck.
This card was eventually reworked to a 1 mana spell that added three 1-drops to the hand, with the hopes of pushing it towards value over tempo. While it was cut from some lists, First Day of School continued to be used in aggro decks, now providing a lot of fuel for a 1-mana spell. With the release of Wailing Caverns, First Day of School was once again nerfed to only add two minions to the hand, making one of the few cards to have a compensative buff reverted.
