Strategy[edit | edit source]
Desert Spear is a decent weapon overall and can be seen as a 3 mana 2/3. However, it has the extra benefit being able to split attacks, dealing 1 damage to two separate targets, or use it like a smaller Piranha Launcher. Additionally, the extra 1/1 Beast can be used to synergize with beast-related, Rush-related, or summon-related cards such Scavenging Hyena, Unseal the Vault, Clear the Way, or Fresh Scent.
If your opponent has a minion with 1 health and you want to kill it, it's generally better to directly attack it with Desert Spear than to attack face and use the Locust. In most cases, the extra 1/1 minion on the board is far more valuable than 1 face damage, since the Locust can continue to threaten damage on future turns. One exception would be situations where you want to avoid taking extra damage, such as against a Face Hunter or Aggro Druid that's in the lead.
