Heroes[edit | edit source]
Overview[edit | edit source]
Illidan Stormrage, the newest playable Hero in Hearthstone, embodies the Demon Hunter’s class identity. He’s an aggressive attacker who leads his fel-infused forces into the fray. While other Heroes may buff and heal their minions, Illidan instead fuels himself with their souls when they fall in combat, taking vengeance upon his enemies.
Mix and match Hero Attack buffs with weapons to trigger mighty attacking-related effects. Slice into enemy minions, using your own health as a resource. You’ll find the class lacks in direct sources of healing, but instead relies on smaller chip heals via Lifesteal.
In addition to being aggressive attackers, Demon Hunters can control the battlefield with their fel magic, benefiting from the souls of their sacrificed Illidari allies, and finding devious ways to deploy massive demons to the battlefield far earlier than expected.
The Demon Hunter also introduces a new class-specific keyword, Outcast. Outcast cards have impactful bonuses when played from the left or right-most position in your hand. With a bit of careful thought and turn-planning, Outcast cards can shift the tides of a match.
Background[edit | edit source]
- Main article: Demon Hunter
Demon hunters, the disciples of Illidan Stormrage, uphold a dark legacy, one that frightens their allies and enemies alike. The Illidari embrace fel and chaotic magics—energies that have long threatened the world of Azeroth—believing them necessary to challenge the Burning Legion. Wielding the powers of demons they’ve slain, they develop demonic features that incite revulsion and dread in fellow elves.
Demon hunters made a pact, long ago, to fight against the forces of chaos using their own terrible powers against it. They ritually blind themselves in exchange for Spectral Sight that enables them to better sense their prey. This enhanced awareness, together with their great agility and magical prowess, makes demon hunters unpredictable adversaries. They wield demonically charged warblades in battle and call upon demonic energies to augment their formidable combat skills.
Hero Power[edit | edit source]
Hero Powers are unique abilities, specific to each class. While most classes spend 2 mana on their hero power, the Demon Hunter only spends 1.
Demon Claws, the class’s Hero Power, is a one mana-cost boost to the Demon Hunter’s Attack, designed around robust synergies with its class cards. The low mana cost of Demon Claws allows it to fit fluidly into curves, giving the Demon Hunter a unique gameplay feel. The hero power can reliably allow the Demon Hunter to fill their Mana curve, and can be used alongside their many synergistic cards such as Blade Dance and Satyr Overseer.

Strategy and gameplay[edit | edit source]
- Please add any available information to this section.
Common deck types[edit | edit source]
- Please add any available information to this section.
Because of Demon Hunter's fantastic card draw, high chip and burst damage, and the speed at which they burn out, most Demon Hunters are geared towards aggressive or midrange builds. Demon Hunters arm themselves with weapons and aggressively-statted minions to take control of the board or apply massive face damage, and look to seal the game with cards like Imprisoned Antaen and Priestess of Fury before the opponent can stabilize.
Counters[edit | edit source]
- Demon Hunters are susceptible to large minions (particularly those with Taunt) as they lack hard removal. Decks that can produce large minions repeatedly like Resurrect Priest, Handlock, and some Control Warrior decks can create an insurmountable force.
- Since Demon Hunters attack with their hero for many different card effects, freezing their hero can often delay their plays.
- Demon Hunters are relatively reliant on their weapons, which extend the effect of their hero power and cards like Chaos Strike. Weapon-destruction effects can severely hamper them.
- Try to play one large minion instead of lots of small ones, since Demon Hunters can easily remove small minions.
- Demon Hunters have great card draw, but difficulty generating extra cards. This makes them easy to beat in fatigue.

Leveling rewards[edit | edit source]
Demon Hunters start with the following class cards upon completing the prologue.
Level 20-60[edit | edit source]
Upon completion of the prologue, the class is at level 20. Above level 20, reaching certain levels will award golden versions of existing Basic cards. As they are uncraftable, it is not possible to disenchant these cards, making the reward purely cosmetic. Reaching each required level will award one golden card. Since the Demon Hunter has no neutral cards to unlock, cards are unlocked at half the rate of other classes.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Demon Hunter is the first new playable class added to Hearthstone. While Death Knight was technically the first new class, it is only represented in a few uncollectible tokens.
- The Demon Hunter does not have a set of Classic cards. However, the extra five cards added in each Year of the Phoenix expansion is designed to provide parity with this. Blizzard intends to build them a Classic set partially out of expansion cards, once they figure out which effects they want to keep evergreen.
