Notes

Strategy

Book of Specters is a powerful card draw tool. The card is strongest when run in a deck with mostly minions, allowing you to draw three cards far more consistently. However, it can be okay to run in a slightly more spell-focused deck, so long as it isn't a combo deck. Even discarding one spell is acceptable, since drawing two for two mana is incredible. This is especially the case for an Elemental deck because the main win condition is Knights of the Frozen ThroneFrost Lich Jaina, so drawing three cards deeper into your deck is a benefit even if some are discarded.

This card has obvious synergy with The WitchwoodArchmage Arugal, adding up to six minions to your hand for only four mana.

Book of Specters can safely draw Kobolds & CatacombsAluneth and Knights of the Frozen ThroneFrost Lich Jaina, since it only discards spells.

Lore

According to Mike Donais, Book of Specters is inspired by The Book of Ur.[2]

"The Book of Ur" is a book written by the mage Ur of Dalaran. It came later into the hands of The WitchwoodArchmage Arugal, and was available as an in-game book.

The book describes Ur's studies of the worgen living in the Emerald Dream, and served as the key for Arugal to summon the creatures.

Trivia

  • The flavour text is a reference to the Necronomicon[3], a grimoire that appeared in many of H. P. Lovecraft's[4] stories.
