How to get[edit | edit source]
Blast Wave can be obtained through Rastakhan's Rumble card packs, or through crafting.
Card | Crafting cost | Disenchanting |
---|---|---|
Blast Wave | 400 | 100 |
Golden Blast Wave | 1600 | 400 |
Notes[edit | edit source]
- As with all area of effect Overkill cards, Blast Wave can activate its Overkill effect several times, once for each minion it deals excess damage to.[1][2][3]
Strategy[edit | edit source]
This will prove to be very useful if your opponent has many one-health minions on the board. This will clear the board, and for every one-health minion killed you will get a random spell in your hand. This spell also works favourably with Spell Damage increases.
Similarly to Flamestrike, this is a board clear card; however, do note that it destroys your own minions too. If you are losing control of the board, you can start trading minions to reduce their healths to 1, then, cast Blast Wave. Bloodmage Thalnos particularly (due to the draw), or other low-cost Spell Damage minions can raise this card's effectiveness. This will grant you many spells, ranging from Arcane Missiles to Puzzle Box, and most of them are likely to help you.
This card can be comparable to Hellfire or Whirlwind, or the Mage spell Arcane Explosion. It is recommended to Overkill at least 2 minions with this card in order to make it worth it. If you have any low-cost minions you are willing to sacrifice (ie. they have Battlecry), consider doing so.

Lore[edit | edit source]
Blast Wave is a low-level talent for Fire mages in World of Warcraft. The spell causes a small explosion around the caster, dealing moderate damage to nearby enemies and greatly slowing them for 4 seconds.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- In contrast with cards like Surrender to Madness (which was created to fulfill the fantasy of the Surrender to Madness spell in World of Warcraft), Blast Wave's design started with the mechanics of the card and the idea of an AoE spell with Overkill, and ended up being tied to the World of Warcraft spell Blast Wave later in design.[2]
