Bandersmosh is a legendary shaman minion card, from the Descent of Dragons set.

How to get

Bandersmosh can be obtained through Descent of Dragons card packs, or through crafting.

Card Crafting cost Disenchanting
Bandersmosh 1600 400
Golden Bandersmosh 3200 1600

Notes

  • The minion that Bandersmosh copies takes into account innate cost reduction modifiers, if any.
  • If cost reduction or set attribute effects are applied to Bandersmosh, at the start of your turn, Bandersmosh still becomes a 5 mana 5/5 without the cost reduction or set attribute effects.
    • Example: Rise of ShadowsJepetto Joybuzz draws Bandersmosh, reducing its cost to 1 mana and stats to 1/1. At the start of your next turn, it becomes a 5 mana 5/5 of a random legendary minion.
  • If Bandersmosh transformed into The Boomsday ProjectFlobbidinous Floop and you've played another minion that turn, it "becomes" Flobbidinous Floop and won't be able to be a 5/5 version of another legendary minion anymore.

Strategy

Although its effect is random, the number of good minions Bandersmosh can transform into are surprisingly large. It has an average statline for a medium-cost card, so it can surpass low-statted legendaries (Al'akir the Windlord, The Boomsday ProjectZilliax, Rastakhan's RumbleHir'eek, the Bat) and use powerful effects earlier or more efficiently (Descent of DragonsYsera, Unleashed, The WitchwoodEmeriss, The WitchwoodShudderwock). If you're less lucky, you can at least play understatted value-oriented legendaries (Rastakhan's RumbleHex Lord Malacrass, Madame Lazul, Rastakhan's RumbleHalazzi, the Lynx) without losing as much tempo or generically useful legendaries (The WitchwoodLord Godfrey, LegacyTirion Fordring, Descent of DragonsVeranus). It does have its misses, though, such as conditional or off-class synergy effects (Rise of ShadowsCommander Rhyssa, Saviors of UldumElise the Enlightened, Rise of ShadowsBlastmaster Boom), legendaries whose power relies on its stats (LegacyThe Beast, Descent of DragonsDeathwing, Mad Aspect, LegacyKing Mukla), and truly useless legendaries (The WitchwoodDuskfallen Aviana, The Boomsday ProjectHarbinger Celestia, LegacyMillhouse Manastorm).

For the list of all possible legendary minions in Standard format, see Legendary card list.

Lore

Trivia

  • Much like The WitchwoodShudderwock, Bandersmosh is a reference to the nonsense poem "Jabberwocky", in which a creature called a bandersnatch is described as being "frumious".
