"Get down!" - LegacyDefender

Noble Sacrifice is a common expert paladin secret card. It summons a 2/1 LegacyDefender.

Noble Sacrifice can be obtained through Classic card packs, through crafting, or as an Arena reward.

Noble Sacrifice 40 5
Golden Noble Sacrifice 400 50

Notes

This secret triggers in response to any attack on the paladin or any friendly minion, spawning a 2/1 LegacyDefender as the new target for the attack.

The Defender summoned has only a single point of health, meaning that he is guaranteed to be destroyed by even the weakest attack. However, ongoing effect buffs from minions such as LegacyStormwind Champion, as well as effects such as LegacyRedemption and LegacySword of Justice, can allow him to live to see the next round. LegacyKnife Juggler's triggered effect will also take place before the attack completes, giving it a chance of destroying a 1-Health attacking minion before it can deal any damage. Note that despite his role as part of the Noble Sacrifice secret, the surviving Defender does not have Taunt.

The Defender's death will trigger effects such as LegacyFlesheating Ghoul and LegacyCult Master.

If the paladin's board is already full when the friendly target is attacked, the secret will not be triggered or revealed, but will remain active.[1]

Strategy

This is an excellent secret for when your opponent is bearing down on you, as the Defender it summons will absorb attack damage and deal light retaliation in return. Noble Sacrifice is best against minions with low Health, or to protect against weapon-using classes such as the rogue and warrior.

When playing against paladin secrets, try attacks using higher-health or less valuable minions first to bait Noble Sacrifice out.

Trivia

Should the LegacyDefender survive his summoning attack, such as by being attacked by a 1 Attack minion while having a LegacySword of Justice in play to buff the Defender to 3/2, his quote when commanded to attack is a boasting "hahaha, I LIVE!!".
